As for the unrequited McShep (well, from John's perspective), you do know that I'm making excuses for stupid, unimaginative canon, right? I find the way that the Flan plays Joe is heartbreaking at times ~ like at the beginning of Tracker (and I didn't even need my fancy slash goggles to see it).
In any case, John's memories of Rodney gave him a connection (yaaay, plot device) to having been on Atlantis before.
... but very cool that he had thousands of them to live.
And ended up with his intended mate through space and time.
