Once again, all my plans were in vain, as I did … nothing. I just didn't feel like it: partially from pain, and partially from lack of motivation. Sigh. SuM popped her head in to ask if I wanted to do another Movie Night tomorrow, but I felt so listless, I declined.

The bright lights? I'd emailed Brian to ask if he could do some personal frivolous food shopping and it fit into his schedule to do it today and make a delivery tomorrow afternoon. That was wonderful news. I also received my annual Christmas email from my childhood friend Danny. As she and I had been in touch a couple times during the year, there was less urgency to share everything. I sent her my wishes for the new year. Watched my usual TV, including the beginning of two weeks of retrospective Jeopardy!, the first show featuring Ken Jennings approaching the 2 million mark in winnings.

Now, let's bring on tomorrow's goodness.
And THIS is why I watch the news every day. I'm trying to catch up on my recordings, so I was really surprised to see yesterday's recording still there. But, I just remembered I couldn't watch because of my Zoom meeting. So what's the what> Apparently, we had another meteor burst through the atmosphere Monday evening. And, Chuck Yaeger (who definitely had The Right Stuff) is no longer bound by physical limitations. Maybe I should reread his book.

Otherwise, I continued to wear myself out, this time with a dizzying load of laundry. And, then, I hit the bed. You know I'm tired when I doze off during Jeopardy! I'll watch the recording tomorrow ::fingers crossed::

Otherwise, I was busy and delighted to be answering emails of praise to the blind group. Well, not entirely delighted as my vision was crap today. Yes, yes, I know I can't have everything - as I acknowledge a good night's sleep and diminution of pain. As long as I'm patting myself on the back, I also provided a character reference for SuM this morning.

And, now, I deserve something sweet as I finish watching tonight's news. Nighty-night.
So, I did something stupid last night. Taking my pills around midnight, I stayed up to watch the finale of Battle of the Blades; I didn't climb into bed until close to 3:30. Of course, the pills had worn off, so I had to take two more Robax. Only then did I - eventually - hit total amnesia. I woke once an hour after 10, then 11, and finally decided I needed to get up before 1 so I could eat and take my "morning" pills.

Managed to keep the pain at bay. But I'm booooooooored. I decided I want to order delivery of chocolates, but need to find out if the specialty cheese shop in Brian's neck of the woods does online deliveries. I hope so. I want to be super self-indulgent this year.

I was really puffed up about getting Final Jeopardy! correct. I am not familiar with the positioning of most countries in Africa, but guessed Uganda as the largest land-locked country. Kudos to my unconsciously-acquired memories.

Anyway, pills are calling me.
Just utterly glorious … even if all I was reading was trash. I managed to stay one step ahead of the spasms and fell into my lovely coma-like sleep, waking up at 9:35 and then stirring out of bed around 10:25. It was … acceptable.

Alas, my vision was rotten for most of the day. I couldn't even see the colour of my money as I was expecting eyedrops to be delivered (so S. sorted it for me). In gratitude (LoL) I told her all about the new cartoon show Dog and Pony. Then, with such lousy vision, I just watched listened to TV. Laughed at the introduction of the "white thing" used by players on Wheel of Fortune. And no touching each other's thing!

Luckily, I seem to have recovered more colour acuity, so I'm going to try to read a few chapters of the book for tomorrow's Zoom meeting.
It's been a mix of good and bad with some delicious distractions and delightful indulgences.

So ... I may have stayed up reading until 2:45 a.m., even if my vision was crap. But the book was compelling. After that, I was relieved to achieve amnesia-coma sleep, not waking up until 8:38, eventually getting up at 9:27, leaving me enough time for a proper brekkie and my pills before 10.

My vision was better today, so I continued on with the book. In the afternoon, I was resting and received a phone call from a co-member of the executive (and part of our book club). I enjoyed having an extended talk with her.

There was even a new epi of Peppa Pig tonight featuring stone-age art and caves. And the beginning of the 37th season of Jeopardy!

Now back to the spasms. They began around 9, leaving me feeling vulnerable as I wouldn't be able to (or shouldn't) take my muscle relaxants and pain pills until midnight. So I toughed it out and am back at my computer, intending to read more. If I can finish the book tonight, that will be ::imagines the voice of Monty Burns:: "Eggcellent!"
After getting up way too many times last night, I finally found three uninterrupted hours of sleep at 7:25. Sorry, kitties for the late brekkie. After eating a handful of peanuts and swallowing my pills with juice, I decided to do a load of laundry and was surprised that SuM and S. had come home early (1:11). Okay, so they can give the cats their lunch. I'm off the hook.

I couldn't really take it easy as I had a lot of blind group stuff to do, including sending a proposal to the Prez that we should have a virtual Halloween bash on the day itself.

In the evening, I was thrilled to watch a repeat epi of Jeopardy! with an older male contestant whom I found to be simultaneously cool and hot! He won only once (sigh) but at least I can have more pleasure gazing at him next Saturday. Yes, I'm being shallow today. And, in other old-people news, it's sad to hear of Diana Riggs's death. At least she was 81. It's always depressing hearing about people dying at much younger ages.

In sad sports news, the Raptors aren't going to advance to the next round, losing by only 5 points. ::pouts::

My final bit of confusion: because of my pain through the night and often during the day, tonight I have beautiful vision! Siiiiiiiiigh.
Well, it was just the first step, but at least I got off my metaphorical duff and sent an online application to get a new family doctor! How did I find the application? Oh, it was on Page 9 of results from Google. I may be s=l-o-w but at least I'm stubborn when I get going.

So, the benefits of this clinic are its location, its rave reviews, and a whole host of labs and specialists in one location. ::crosses fingers a lot::

In other news, I managed to stave off pain (a miracle in itself) AND have mostly decent vision for most of the day. I may even try to catch up on my library book.

Watched the usual TV and nibbled on the special crackers (made of seeds) from Brian. They are very healthy, too! Okay, back to reading and keeping my mind active. [BTW, I was very proud to have gotten tonight's Final Jeopardy! correct. Gotta love those distant nooks and crannies of the mind.
The only good thing, again, was the amnesiac quality of sleep, until after 8. But the humidity was still at stypefying levels, so I stayed off th computer for most of the day. Managed to evade pain, but was also not keen to eat. Sigh. So, instead, I explored just how many different positions I could occupy in bed. At least there was some entertainment value in my TV shows, including the first Celebrity Jeopardy! game from the 80s (90s?).

Now that I've covered the sheer excitement of my day, I think it's time for a mini bag of chips. And my pills. Woo-hoo!

OMG. I am so stuffed after having had a delightful dinner procured at Dairy Queen overlooking a beautiful valley on a lovely evening with my fave baby bro Brian. Just as well that I had only a lemon tart abd juice for brekkie and a tiny bag of chips for lunch, just to leave room. The bacon cheeseburger was terrific, but the large onion rings were way too much (so I brought them home). Then I threw common sense to the wind and ordered a medium blizzard with Coffee Crisp. Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as Too. Much. Ice. Cream.

Brian and I also talked about me getting a new phone. ::shakes head:: I'm so confused. And I don't think we resolved the issue of the iPad switching background colours on a whim (only in Overdrive and my Solitaire game, as far as I can tell). Maybe it's something in the air?

Anyway, after Brian got me home (and the contractor showed up unexpectedly for last minute deliveries), I finally collapsed and watched my usual TV (Jeopardy! from its fifth season and Young Sheldon). Now the big decision is which nightie to choose.
Okay, so that might be the title of one of Daddy Pig's fave books but, today, I was the one getting the downright dirty details about how screwed up the bathroom was. Well, I was the exclusive audience for the contractor and his guys.

I'd had a bit of a panic in the morning. Even though I woke up earlyish, I lost track of time. Ack. It's 9:09 and I haven't had a shower yet. Or brushed my teeth. Got both done with minutes to spare. But the panic was unnecessary as the plumber never showed - because of the concrete issues. Whew!

So, I dozed off again during the more gentle sounds of drilling. Tonight's nostalgic Jeopardy! epi featured all three contestants losing, with no money. Ha!

Getting ready for bed and including my penguin fleece, as I woke up freezing this morning. What a weird summer.
Even if it's the unmusical Anvil Chorus of drilling and hammering as the upstairs bathroom was being gutted. I guess I really needed the extra sleep, especially as I was so disappointed to be stuck with poor vision all day long.

The only fun distraction was watching the very first modern-day epi of Jeopardy! from the early 80s. I say modern-day because it's NOT the first iteration of the show that my friends and I watched in high school (during the 60s). The oddest things were how hyper Alex seemed and how overly-dramatic audience reactions were, especially when one particular contestant got the wrong answer. Just weird.

I'm continuing the distraction by trying to finish reading a story - even though it's all ghostly snow. And then hoping for blessed relief from my pills. I didn't even eat my meal today, ::crosses fingers::
I know, what a refreshing change! First of all, my stylist thought I'd lost weight. Hey, if SHE says so …. One weird thing is that my body temp was a few degrees lower than normal. Um … what does that mean? In any case, I now have a gorgeous neck-length pageboy with a floof of curls on the left side. It's unique ('cuz it's from my imagination). It ws enough to make the drugstore checkout clerk ask with apparent embarrassment whether the Senior discount applied to me! Considering their Senior criterion is 15-20 years younger than my actual age … well, you get the gist.

My final act of rashness was buying lots of frou-frou coffee drinks and lovely fruit at the supermarket where a nice young man found me everything I wanted. After that, I still had 90 minutes to wait for my ride - which came early. What a relief to be back home.

I tried to email Brian about how happy I am about the iPad, but gmail was being stubborn and wouldn't connect. And, then, the iPad was being rebellious. Sigh. I'll thank him tomorrow. In any case, the exquisite sight faded, especially by this evening. Boo and hoo. But that didn't stop me from watching Jeopardy!, Young Sheldon, and two days' worth of Toronto news. Now I'm ready for bed. ::crosses fingers::
So, even though the alarm was set for 8-something, I woke up at 6:30. Sigh. But I had a lot to do, including stripping the bed, doing a couple loads of laundry, gyrating gymnastics to remake the bed. And that was just the morning. I had no idea when Brian was planning to come over; he finally said it would be around 4:30-5:00; he planned to order Swish for both of us to be delivered at 5:30. Okay, now I can relax. I needed to lie down for a wee bit first.

The food arrived shortly after he did. And there were surprises such as more of his yummy jam, and Daddy Pig as a b-day prezzie. I guess I'll have to look for George Pig on eBay.

We had dinner out on the back deck and stayed out after while Brian tinkered with my iPad and phone. OMG. He gave me smart invert on the iPad, so I can watch all media au naturel! Now I can catch up on church services.

We also discussed getting together at other times during the summer. I can come out to his place and then we can dine on a nearby patio. Sounds terrific! Anyway, he finally left t 9. While he'd been with me, my sight had kept getting crisper and more colour-accurate! He really is the best medicine! I just hope it lasts after I return from the mall tomorrow so I can read. ::crosses fingers:: At least I watched a really clear Jeopardy! tonight.
Hmm. Coincidentally, that's the name of the book I'm reading (for the third time IIRC).

Let's begin with down: pain during the night and waking up twice. The second time at 6, I just stayed up. To make up for my shortened sleep, I returned to bed after brekkie and pills and slept for hours. It was lovely. Okay, I think that should be in the up category.

Definitely waaaaaaay up was my vision. ::rolls eyes:: Of course it was - after I'd needed it for yesterday's movie. But, then, that's why I borrowed the book as there are delays in getting me the loan I'm on hold for, though there should be NO obstruction (as I'm 3 of 5 copies). Maybe it's the staff shortage that is preventing them from releasing it to me. Sigh.

Watched yesterday's and today's news broadcasts. There's a new feature on electronic gadgets, etc., so I want to get the Kobo app on my iPad. It can also handle library books and, as it's supposed to give me flexibility regarding fonts and sizes (which I desperately need), I want to give it a try. While I'm at it, I want to play games on my iPad, too!

Just for the sake of nostalgia, I rewatched one of Jeopardy! James's significant wins from last year. Then I was back to reading and taking notes for when we'll discuss the book at book club. And now it's time for pills and bed. Nighty-night.
First of all, I made myself happy. I'm still so grateful for the ability to conk out (most of the time) within minutes of going to bed. I wanted to wake up around 7, but really didn't want to set the stupid alarm. Not a problem, as all the piggies in the universe woke me up at 7:01. Yay. Then I got to tackle the covid-altered ride booking site. I had o answer a screening questionnaire first, then got the rides I needed for next Thursday. Yay, again.

In the afternoon, I was lying in bed staving off pain when the meals admin called. I hadn't sent her an email saying I'd reconsidered. She was just so grateful when I told her I'd do it. And I'll take a chance on the photographer's skill. ::crosses fingers:: After that, I called the hair salon and booked my colour and cut for two weeks from today. But I was shocked to hear I'd have to provide my own mask. Why? Because it's going to get hair dye and shampoo and water on it. So it needs to be either cheap or disposable. At least I have two weeks to find one.

Watched the usual TV including the final regular game Jeopardy! James played before being beaten. It's a run-up to this year's Tournament of Champions that will begin on Monday. Can't wait!

I'm also pleased that my vision improved over the day. Not perfect, but yellow against chocolate is … acceptable. I hope it's really good as SuM and S. picked up the "Nemesis" DVD for me at the library today. ::crosses fingers::
Well, on wht I still call Dominion Day (long degraded into lacklustre Canada Day or - in Quebec - Moving Day), I had two naps instead of one. Woo-hoo!

I was feeling wordy, so I sent a long response to a reader who really enjoyed one of my recent stories; I also finally got in touch with one of my oldest church friends who always sends out animated cards. He'd sent me a delightful b-day card and today there was a Canada Day card. Though I couldn't really see what was happening, I loved the rendition of the national anthem.

And that was basically it. I'd had a decent 6 hours of sleep overnight without pain (though I can feel my muscles clenching and will be relieved to take my pills soon). Watched a titch of TV (including one of Jeopardy! James's spectacular wins) and received a pleading email from the meals admin. So I'm considering giving in to the publicity photo … as long as it is taken from my right side! Even better if I can approve it before they run it. I'll email her tomorrow.

And that's a wrap.
So, yes, I had sight this morning (and for most of the day). It wasn't perfect, but it was enough for me to discern both the outside and inside of Marilyn's card. It was a Happy Pride card, with a picture of her in the parade from several years ago, helping to carry the church's looooooong flag! And, on FB today, I saw a check-in by the church as they unfurled the flag at the park at the end of the street. I guess that's as much congregating that's going to happen. Missing was Rev. Jeff as he ushered his dad into the next plane of existence. I sent Rev. Jeff a warm note of sympathy.

There were also a couple of deaths affecting the blind group. Our treasurer suffered two losses: both his partner amd his dad. His partner's death was not a complete surprise, as she'd had cancer for over a year. But to lose both in close succession in a huge blow. I'll have to send him my condolences tomorrow.

I mentioned the card to SuM and we reminisced about events from yesteryear. Sne reminded me that we should have a movie night when they get back from vacation at the end of July. That should be fun as it's been a while. I also caved when it came to reading. I won't be ready for July's book club as I am on strike. So, instead, I borrowed the next book in the melodramatic series as it's easy reading. Obviously, I wasn't taxing my brain with my TV shows (with the exception of Jeopardy!, natch!).

Anyway, with my slightly improved sight, I won't make the same mistake I did last night, inserting the WRONG eyedrops. Oops!
Talk about creative pain variations. Today, the spasms decided to go "walkies" and struck different parts of my torso. Because, naturally, I'm already bored with the traditional parts. NOT.

So, essentially, that was my day. Lying in bed, trying to nap, reading a little, watching TV, yadda, yadda. The only reprieve was having a mail call. Surely it couldn't be my free mask yet. Nope, it wasn't. It was real mail, an art card repurposed for my birthday sent by Peter. I was just delighted. I responded by email about our shared experiences visiting the Knox-Albright Museum in Buffalo. I was there with my Frank Lloyd Wright class in the early 80s and he was there, I presume in the late 80s, to see the Monet at Giverny exhibit.

The finale of the Jeopardy! Teachers' Tournament was so-so. My fave came in second. I found too many of the questions to be ridiculously easy. And I got Gulliver's Travels an easy final.

I'm going to read for a wee bit and hope for sleep. ::crosses fingers::
Well, I have no explanation or idea of the source of this new-found energy, but I'll gladly accept it. Not so acceptable was waking up at 4:43! I summoned my focus and made myself fall asleep, waking up at the more reasonable time of 9:30-ish.

After brekkie, I finally did a load of laundry, climbed up onto a rickety step-stool to replace a light bulb, washed out tons of recycling, and felt very pleased with myself. The weariness caught up with me after 5, so I scheduled a nap until 7:30. Watched the usual TV shows including the Jeopardy! Teachers' Tournament. I've got a fave: she had a modest win today (none of them guessed Lawrence of Arabia in the final).

Spent the rest of the evening reading, even through leeching colour. Sigh.
It may have been a lyrical part of the musical "Oklahoma" but it was most definitely not descriptive of my morning or the many, MANY hours preceding it. Sigh.

So, I missed my 8 PM pills and that neglect did a major number on me when I finally went to bed (which wasn't all that late). I just couldn't fall asleep. My heart was racing, my torso hurt, and the muscles refused to relax. I crawled out of bed a couple times to read. Finally, the third time I returned I seemed to be exhausted enough to fall asleep - I'm guessing around 4:30. I managed to sleep until 10:47 when I figured I really needed to eat brekkie and then take my morning pills.

After that, I returned to bed and conked out until 3:30, close to when it was time for my next dose. It's a good thing I had the DC novel to keep me distracted. I also watched my usual shows including the wonderful finale of Jeopardy! GoAT. I had to laugh when I saw all the binge-watching opportunities in the TV schedule for fans of Big Bang Theory. I wasn't complaining when I watched a rerun of Young Sheldon either.

I am currently pain-free, but will have some hot soup before my next round of pills. The Universe owes me!!! Oh, before I go, there was an uplifting story on the news from a South Carolina restaurant. In order to fulfill social distancing requirements, they'd put 10 blow-up dolls in the seats that are off limits. Total cost $150. The owner was very pragmatic, saying you have to spend money to make money. Anyway, it's nice to have a positive story from south of the border, too.
