So, why was it weird?
Well, first of all, there was a power failure after midnight and I was reading fic on the 'puter when everything went dark. So, where's my lantern? Oh, near the windows ... in the living room. So, I stood up and gingerly made my way to try to find it. My, it was disorienting. I thought I was facing the couch when I bumped into a dining chair (perpendicular to said couch). I found the lantern and ... duh ... the lights came back on.
John told me there had been a long fire alarm at 7:30 this morning (long enough that people were outside with their cats and dogs). Wha? I slept completely through it. Gee, I always knew being in my bunk was a good soporific, but this is ridiculous! Oh, and speaking of bunks (especially on Serenity), I'm working on a crossover BtVS/Firefly fic with Willow/Inara. I just have to read up on brain wave patterns, etc.
Anyway, I did wake up at 10 and was promptly lazy (that sounds like an oxymoron). Brian called and asked if I could be ready at 1. I said make it 1:30, so he arrived at 2. Hee - we're being flexible today. We drove to Canadian Tire first because I needed to get the two shelves (and they were half price, yay). We also picked up real wood charcoal and a grill topper. Then we stopped at two different stores to get food. The idea was that, for once, this was going to be an easy party. I know, I know. We always say that! We picked up red skin potato salad, baby roma tomatoes, a vidalia onion, prime rib burgers, rosemary buns, corn on the cob, lemon meringue pie, root beer, iced tea and disposable plates. I already had mustard, corn and onion relishes at home.
We got back to my place at 5 and Brian got to work on the bbq. M arrived early and John at 6:15 with his contribution of Australian rose, marinated shrimp and scallops, so we added that to the table which already had a bottle of Ontario rose (so we compared). Oh, dinner was magnificent and there was enough for everyone to take seconds home. It was incredibly peaceful, though it became a titch cold.
I walked M home and we watched the cat get stoned from John's catnip (courtesy of the cat show). Then I came home and ... la-la-la ... I have some dishes to do, but mostly just cutlery and wine glasses. So, 20 minutes at the most.
I really had a wonderful day, the weather co-operated and I know I'll sleep well tonight (after all of the bustling about).
Languid hugs,
H.
