Whoa!
What an unexpected and most welcome surprise.
A day that was bordering on being as depressing as the last two got turned around.
By what?
More like by whom?

First of all, I received a call from my fave birthday boy who wanted to pay me a visit tomorrow. Oops! I already have Brian coming over for dinner and I would hate to be an ungracious hostess and turf my guest out early. So, we decided to get together on Monday. Which is a good thing as I have to dust.

And, secondly, I had John over for fondue dinner which was also a semi-celebration of his birthday a week ago. This time I was smart. I cut the garlic cloves and rubbed the castiron pot before I took my shower. John threw a bit of a curveball, by delaying his arrival until 6:45. Ack! I'm hungry. I baked two baguettes and set out gherkins, stuffed queen olives and campari tomatoes (I'd never had those before). John brought me a couple of prezzies: organic garlic from South America? and an organic delicious apple (which I think I should eat Right. Now). Even though I'd brought out my Polish deluxe vodka, John brought out his Absolut. So, we finished off his bottle first and then moved on to mine. Three small glasses later, I was feeling no pain and was quite giddy. He'd also brought down a unique square taper. The fondue was fabulous (it should be: I always add Kirsch); the conversation vacillating between sparkling and then emotionally draining (very Gemininian). But it is really good to have someone with whom I can be so open (and damn the tears).

At 8:15, John suggested we go for a little walk to the lake. Why not? Even though I'm wearing sandals and a nightie underneath my black lounging gown. But I grabbed my winter coat and gloves and we were off. There was still an aurora effect from the setting sun. Of course, I couldn't see where I was stepping, so I needed to hang on to his arm. The lake was very peaceful and there were four swans by the boardwalk. However, there were small, energetic waves breaking against the cobblestone beach. We sat on the rocks for a while and exchanged some hilarious, outrageous life stories. It really was a wonderful evening. Alas, as it was a work night for John, we had to come back home around 9:30 (with tiny pebbles stuck under my feet).

Right now, the kitchen sink is full of dishes and I. Don't. Care. They can wait until tomorrow. And I tried to cut my toenails today. Hee - what a laugh, because I can't reach my feet unless I contort myself (no, you don't really want to know). So, I think I'm going to treat myself to a pedicure tomorrow, especially as it's aiming to be warm, so I don't have to worry about sandals and bare feet. Anyway, the vodka analgesic effect has worn off which means I can go back to being my customary grumpy self. Best I go to sleeeeeep.
