I often talk about how lucky I am to live in this neighbourhood. Today, I'm walking back some of my enthusiasm. I woke up shortly before 6. To try to get back to sleep in what I perceived to be quiet, I turned my sound machine back on (it's on a timer). Imagine my shock about ten minutes later to be enveloped not only in total silence but absolute darkness. Eeeeeeek. But, as there was nothing I could do (and I sussed out that it was not an isolated house outage), I managed to fall back asleep and woke up to the alarm at 8. Even though it was a dull day, at least there was the approximation of light entering my windows. By 9:00 a.m., I made my way to SuM's living room to wait for my prescription delivery. I was wearing my coat and beret because it was cold. While I was there, I found the info on my phone about the outage. Wow, are we ever lucky living just above the lower boundary of the affected area. /sarcasm. Anyway, I was thrilled that the power came back just as my meds were delivered. So I could return to civilization. Which I did.
A couple hours later (you do know where this is headed, right?), while I was in the middle of updating my grocery order, the power went out again. Arrgghh. So I donned coat and hat again and invaded SuM's living room. She was lucky, just about ready to leave to take her son to a bowling alley and to play pool while I got to sit in a cooling off room and endlessly petting cats. Also with a depleting phone battery. Sigh. So I returned to my own space, keeping the cats out. I lit ALL of my magic battery-powered pillars (too afraid to light real candles), raised the blinds so there was some light and went to bed, drawing the covers up really high and tight, so the heat would stay trapped underneath. And I managed to sleep for a wee bit.
Though SuM had returned momentarily before I'd fallen asleep to mention that the power was expected to be back on by 6:00, I was thrilled it came back shortly after 4, even more so because I'd forgotten I'd had one of the bright floor lamps on. So much of my life revolves around electrical conveniences (and I'm certainly not going to feel guilty about that as I can't read in the dark, though I did talk to my piggy in bed!). I finished placing my revised grocery order and then returned to bed in a much more leisurely fashion. Had trouble watching Murdoch Mysteries (OMG, Brackenreid invented Buffalo wings in ... Buffalo!) because of the dark scenes (sigh) and Castle was a repeat, but I still watched it. Boooooring evening, but at least there is light and heat. I'd also rewarded myself when the power returned by having Carr's crackers and cream cheese, smoked salmon and gravlax sauce, and a glass of Gewurtztraminer/Riesling. That made me feel nice and mellow.
Right now, I think I'd better mellow myself off to sleep. A proper sleep, TYVM.
