Enjoyed sleeping in until the alarm at 8. Had a leisurely morning, considering I'm not wearing face powder so I'm saving a few minutes. Yes, it's that hot out. Church-John was expected at 11 and arrived soon after. I was temporarily in charge of the cats as S. had gone to the Indy-style trials … something I'll never understand (the jockeying for position and the overwhelming boredom of hundres of laps). But, hey, if she likes it.... Anyway, the trick was to get c-J inside, grab my winter coat (for the cleaners) and get me out the front door (always a pain) without having a cat sneak by, because it was Just. Too. Hot. to leave them outside.

C-J gave me several choices of restaurant and I decided on Hot House Café. The food is always fab and they have really comfy, cushy booths. With my parking pass, we parked right next to the entrance. Yay. The cool interior was a relief. We both decided on a large glass of rose; c-J chose Vichyssoise and I a Tuna Ceviche. I had a spoon of his soup: it was very creamy with a hint of chicken, probably from the stock used. My Tuna was breathtaking: marinated in lime juice, with chopped tomatoes, lots of onion, cilantro, and the tuna in equally small morsels accompanied by plantain crisps, I could have easily had a second one. I also reminded myself to try it with my Gazpacho base, namely red wine vinegar and red wine. Hmmm. Me like. For his main, c-J chose Pasta Carbonara (IIRC) and I had Penne alla Sambucca that was also amazing: with finely sliced chicken breast, red peppers, snow peas, and I forget the rest. We were shocked to think that the dinner size (which we'd rejected) was twice as much. We could barely finish our smaller plates. But we'd wanted to save room for dessert, each of us having a decadent Tiramisu cake soaked in various liqueurs, and coffee. During lunch, we shared memories of trips, and dining anecdotes (reminded of the uncouth old days when people drank cheap plonk). As always, we had a lot of fun.

As c-J had forgotten to leave the windows open a tiny crack, the car was like an oven. So I got overheated again, while he stopped at Staples to buy me a necessity. Anyway, I was relieved to be back home where I could toss all the clothes off my body into the washing machine.

Had a quiet evening, watching my usual shows. The one-day winner from TO on Jeopardy became a two-day winner; but I was disappointed by the ridiculous ease of one of the Doubles as well as the Final. Not up to par. Anyway, I'm going to have some more water (it's either Polish or Czech) and then entertain the concept of sleep. I'm glad I got the chores out of the way today!
