::sighs::
I watched this week's epi again and have some observations.
1* Is anyone else getting tired of the overly sexualized rivalry between Cassandra and Rachel ... even just PLAIN old rivalry? It seems really ... inappropriate for a college setting between an instructor and a freshman, especially in an environment that is supposed to be turning out professionals.
2* Where did sex-tiger Rachel come from? Mind you, I have absolutely NO complaints about that outfit with the straps at the top of her boobs. It's fabulous. However, what is not fabulous is the unorganic emergence of a woman who is flaunting her sexuality. Just because she had a recent makeover is IMO not enough to cause such a deep-seated transformation. And, in case anyone's forgotten, it was only a bit over a year ago since The First Time. Remember her "I'm just a girl" words to Finn?
3* Just how cray-cray can Sue get? This woman is pathetic, having no joy in her life other than making the Glee Club miserable. Hey, Sue, how's your baby? I guess now that all your hormones are back to normal (or what's normal for you), you can be a huge bitch again.
4* The school budget crunch may be a reality in the U.S. but why has Ryan M. conveniently forgotten that April Rhodes PAID for the auditorium so the Glee Club would never be without a place to practise or perform? Sheesh.
5* Though I think that Brittany and Sam look adorable together (and that a bisexual Brittany HAS the right to date women AND men ... duh), I don't get any sense of wonder and excitement about their budding romance. Certainly not like it was with Samcedes which was smokin' HOTTTTT.
6* I get that Ryan M. feels indebted to Lea Michele for having stooped to be a part of his little show. But the pandering to her ego via her character is unrealistic. What lesson is there for her when she gets a golden ticket, appears in the showcase, gets cheers and a standing ovation (that was really unrealistic, considering who the majority of the audience was) and then wins - when she's just a freshman? I am increasingly left feeling unimpressed with her voice and mannerisms the more I see of her (hmmm, should I have specified whether it's Lea or Rachel).
7* OTOH, if I want to see realism all I have to do is focus on Chris Colfer. Though his singing is not adolescent, he can summon all the vulnerability and uncertainty of those years with ease (his eyes, OMG, they slay me). AFAIC, Chris is the most musical *star* of the show. It was a good thing to finally know WHY Kurt wasn't accepted at NYADA but, seriously, why are there NO reasons given along with the rejection letter. It seems that Carmen remembers all of the applicants but only gives them her opinion when they meet at random times. Considering the immaturity we've seen in the teens on the show, who would expect the necessary introspection and ability to develop - even if one is gifted with extraordinary talent?
8* Let me roll my eyes at the FREE and available location of the Glee Club's rehearsal space. Because, as we all know, nighttime outdoors in Ohio in December is a very pleasant experience - NOT. But it felt good to see them come together.
9* I don't know about how others feel, but I am getting SO tired of seeing Rachel as the supposed poster child of Jews for Jesus. Every Christmas we see her go gaga for the season and this year is even worse. Hearing her singing O Holy Night made me want to scream, just to obliterate the words and music.
10* Just to end on a positive note, Kurt's in NYADA. Yay-yay-yay!!!!!
Whoa! I really had a lot to say about the episode. Why can't we just get back to the music ... and more realistic portrayals of characters? I know, I know, that's wishful thinking. ::sighs::
