Well, I deserve to have one occasionally, though - once again - I was ripped out of a dream by the alarm at 7. But I had important things to do, such as getting ready to go into the outside world for the first time in three months! Because my hair is a disaster, I wore my red satin scarf. Because my toenails are equally aesthetic disasters, I had to d a pair of black socks to wear under my house shoes. Yuck - tight, tight, tight.

Anyway, after a cool night, the weather was gorgeous. High just slightly above 70, with lots of sun and no humidity. We set off at 10:20. We arrived at the Zoo about 15 minutes early, but the zig-zag driving between the pylons ate up the time. Before leaving home, I'd used my atropine eyedrops (to dilate my right pupil). Consequently, I was able to see much more than I normally do. Even so, it was a challenge being with two fully sighted people. They got to see more animals along the back road, but I was still thrilled to see a stork (it was HUGE!!!), an adorable zebra, a couple of rhinos, a camel, goats, and a few more. There were hilarious things such as a rhino entertaining itself by kicking a bucket, some Canada geese making themselves at home in one of the pavilions, and hearing the inelegant squawk of a peacock. Just to be outside and listening to the birds while driving along lush greenery was magical. Via the podcast, we learned about the zipline installed under a bridge going down to the river valley.

After that, SuM and S. stopped at another bath reno store. I stayed in the car with the windows open. Finally, we drove to the nearest Burger King because I wanted a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. We had lunch at home on the back deck and just relaxed. Finally, I had to go indoors to start chopping Vidalia onions and four coloured peppers which I threw into my slow cooker along with the lambchop bones, water, and white wine. Many hours later, I sucked the bones dry and put the rest into the fridge. I wasn't hungry and - in fact - was in a lot of pain. It could have been from sitting in the car for hours.

As my vision began to dwindle (but still pretty awesome), I lay in bed and watched my regular TV. I played telephone tag with my sis RS. And, now, I'm going to reply to a wonderful email from someone in the blind group. I'm also going to cheat by taking my pills a little early. Because … ouch!
Well, this afternoon, I had THREE in the house (and possibly a few more outside or still on the flashing fire truck). Uh ... blondie, just WHY did you have a whole gaggle of hunky firemen in and around the house? Well, I sorta kinda had a microwave mishap during which I incinerated a bagel. How? Well, I wasn't thinking when I set the timer ... and then didn't notice anything was wrong until I saw smoke. Uh-oh. So. Much. Smoke. It set off both smoke detectors in the house. So loud that our neighbour heard it and told me she called the Fire Dept. So I met all the nice men at the door and gave them the "I can't see" spiel. They went through my space and opened the windows, then used a powerful fan from the front door to drive all the smoke out. Or as much as they could. The Misses had taken refuge in SuM's bedroom, while I sat in her living room clutching Grumpy to keep him from running away.

After they left, I sent SuM a text message to not be worried or surprised but ... yadda, yadda. It turns out she'd been at work and was coming home soon anyway. When she got in, she said it smelled like burnt toast. How ironic and appropriate, considering I'd been trying to defrost a cinnamon french toast bagel. ::gives self a stern chat:: Blondie, blondie, blondie, you must pay attention to what you're doing when the microwave is involved. Even if you're in the middle of Dan Brown's "Inferno". Uh ... nope, I don't see the connection at all. ::rolls eyes::

Thankfully, it was so warm out that even having the windows open for several hours was pleasant ... and I'd had the heater off since the morning. Anyway, that's quite enough excitement for one day. Here I thought I'd be having a placid day after I'd frantically nagged Brian about trying to find my library books. I managed to locate them by the time he replied to me. Oops. Sorry, baby bro. Beyond watching my game show repeats, all I did was read, read, read. Which is what I'm going to do ... right now. Ciao, tutti.
... that comes alive whenever the Brian element combines with the Helenka element, with many sparkles resulting. Naturally, today was no different!

The alarm woke me up at 8, so I had almost 4 hours to get ready. Hated the idea of wearing layers, but added a black turtleneck, beret, socks, and winter gloves to my ensemble. Also packed an umbrella. My minivan showed up at noon and, in the 40 minute journey to the waterfront, the driver and I had exchanged personal histories. He was from Ethiopia and had been in Canada for 33 years. We talked a lot of individual philosophy of responsibility and behaviour.

Brian showed up a few minutes later, so we were headed to the island (Ward's, the populated one) around 1:00. I'm always sad because the taxi gets us there much too soon. I so enjoyed rocking with the waves and my spine really appreciated the gentle movements. When we got to the other side, we headed immediately to OUR gizyboo that seemed to be not far from lilac bushes whose scent entranced Brian. Had the special sammidges Brian had prepared from fancy ingredients he'd picked up at a specialty shop in the west end, accompanied by what we called "special" grape juice on our FB posts, lol. Well, the Bordeaux had had a gold medal seal on the bottle.

Though we escaped the rain, many others weren't as lucky. In one afternoon, we'd been treated to a spectacular display of lightning and thunder (almost overhead which caught Brian unaware!), patches of clear sky with puffy clouds (so I could see planes CLEARLY, surely an anomaly), hot sun drying the ground, violent wind bursts knocking over garbage cans, more rain, more sun.

Later, we had slices of my championship cheddar and seedless green grapes which didn't taste all that special UNTIL we had them with the cheese. Fabulous combination. We talked about all sorts of stuff: what plans each of us has for the summer and my desire to take a tour of the harbour - because we love being on the water. So that's my project: to find a boat that will accommodate my walker and mobility deficiencies (oh, aren't I just precious?). His is to find a free Saturday. Not lol. He's a very popular, busy boy!

Sadly, before we knew it, it was time to head back. We caught the 4:45 ferry back (though, we were so involved in our conversation as well as being transfixed by the glistening sun on the wavecaps, we nearly didn't exit the boat!) and got to my pickup point at 5:10. Luckily, my minivan was already there, so no anxiety from me. Even with another pickup, I still got home at 6:00. SuM and I had a wee talk about my day (lovely), the fact that she'd vacuumed my place (oh, thank goodness), and her plans to go to the fireworks with the gang at a nearby park. Just then the gang arrived, so I made myself scarce from the way-too-barky dogs.

Enjoyed a more stimulating Jeopardy! game tonight, and surprisingly got the Final clue ("The Pony Express") right. I'm also so pleased when I get American stuff right.

Before it gets any later, I think I'd better have some cappuccino yogurt and take my pain pills. I'll have lots of laundry tomorrow, because klutzy moi knocked over a can of Coke, spilling it only both my dress and trousers. Oh, well, I have plenty of time for chores this weekend.
Why was the blonde so incredibly exhausted? Could it have been a visit to the GP? But, wait. Blonde does that a lot nowadays. So what was different this time?

Well, the difference is that, though the blonde was picked up at 9:40 a.m. (for a 12:15 p.m. appointment), the blonde had NO way of getting home, as the waiting list turned into NO ride at all. So, what else could the blonde do ... but get home on her own? Yes, very eeksome. But, first, blonde did some necessary shopping: a perfect birthday card for that rascal baby brother, cough syrup and ... nuts??? By the time she saw me, the GP was running an hour late, but I got across my wish to be referred to an orthopedic surgeon. I don't know if the lump on my foot can be excised - but I need to KNOW because the pain is driving me bonkers. Uh ... more bonkers. We'll see.

I made it to the subway entrance at 1:30. The helpful ticket taker mentioned that the less busy route might not be such a good idea as that station's elevator might be out of service. Oh, dear. That meant taking the busier line and a crossover fraught with trepidation. But, I am so glad to report, all elevators and escalators were in working order. I had a while to wait for the bus, but had help getting down onto the sidewalk by people on the street. I was so lucky that it wasn't bitterly cold nor snowing. I was inside by 3:00 p.m., totally exhausted. Why? Well, other than the whole idea of having taken the subway independently for the first time since 2006, my hands were aching from having clutched the walker's handles for the duration of the journey. While I'd been waiting for the GP, I'd texted both RS and church-John. The latter was hilarious, saying I should reward myself with a stiff drink. But, honestly, I had NO drink before the nap (I'm just having a glass of white wine with my French onion soup ... now).

When I got in, I finally managed to send Brian a Happy Birthday e-card (as Liblikas was being petulant this morning) and sent good wishes also via FB. Then I watched this week's Castle. OMG, what a conundrum for Kate. And, then, finally, the nap into oblivion which brings me full circle to now. Hungry and thirsty. So ... cheers until later!
