Well, it began as unsufferably, grotesquely sweltering ... which is what it had been all night long, with the LOW being 76F. Don't ask how much fun (NOT) it was trying to pull leggings onto clammy flesh. ::shudders::
At least there was a pleasant breeze when I arrived at church. ::sighs in longing:: Of course, on a week when I'm on duty, my fave hymn would be scheduled. So I mouthed the words to it during the 9 a.m. service as I sat in the corridor catching the draft (or should I say draught). I was approached by someone I haven't seen in years. It was a Polish guy. He'd forgotten my name and I his. But it was good to see someone from ages ago. It was Rev. Deana's turn to preach and to talk about our history. She talked about the back-and-forth movement of congregants between MCCT and its breakaway offshoot Christos MCC. When people were mad at one, they moved over to the other and vice-versa. Still, I was surprised to get a very short but moving communion prayer out of it.
After church, I got some unexpected birthday cake from a friend while I was sitting outside waiting for my cab. Oooh, it's the lemony custard one. I know Rodney McKay would back away in horror, but Laa-Laa loves custard. I should know: I have the doll that sings about tubbie custard or tubbie toast. Why, yes, I am 3 (and getting younger all the time).
The skies were darkening significantly as my driver got me closer to home. I was thrilled. I just wanted it to rain and be cloudy. Well, I don't think we got more than a few drops, though I may have been awake but oblivious. Finally, finally, FINALLY the temperature dropped and I can't believe I'm just sitting here, feeling ... comfortable. In August?!?!?!?!? But, definitely no complaining. Though I will mention I couldn't take a nap earlier because my old cellphone charge was completely depleted. But I survived ... though I seem to be faaaaaaaading.
